In 2022, the majority of colleges and students working with Bridge Scholarship moved programming to the smaller city of Les Cayes due to constant school closures and civil unrest in the city of Port au Prince. UNICEF reports that a half million children were displaced and run out of schools in 2023 alone. Although a short car ride away, most students and staff fly to Les Cayes where they then attend multiple different colleges based on their area of study. Haiti’s international airport even moved its hub to Les Cayes for safety concerns, as Port au Prince is overrun with gangs, looting, and violence. However, this also means Les Cayes is now full of business opportunities and a need for services!
In Les Cayes, an average of 14-20 students live together with ample support to focus on their education through counseling, housing, a stable environment, and collective food and necessities.
The 3 components of a Bridge Scholarship:
Education:
Enrollment in specific schools offering 4 year university bachelor degrees or trade school degrees.
Leadership Training:
While in the program, students receive training in Christian principles of leadership, nationalism and service to their community.
English Proficiency:
Students are enrolled in rigorous English training in order to receive the highest certifications in translation and proficiency. This proficiency will give them a distinct advantage over their peers in acquiring employment.
“These students are hungry for training, hungry to be excellent.”

"90% of the higher educational system consists of private universities of which most are entirely unregulated, contributing to the poor quality of higher education.”
This is why we send our students to Haiti Providence University
